Emily and John previously worked with OOIEE founder Matt Olson and his old studio RO/LU; together they redesigned Emily and John’s 1970s sawtooth modern, Sea-Ranch-meets-Norman-Jaffe house into something really special. Emily and John have moved into a fantastic James Stageburg home on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. Stageburg was a luminary Midwest architect in the 60s-80s, known for his impact through teaching at University of Minnesota and working with Ralph Rapson. Emily and John’s new home is classic Stageburg - not post-modern, because it isn’t playfulness as a style or a reaction to something, but rather post-post modern, in that it indulges an unperformed freedom and joy. OOIEE redesigned the home’s exterior, taking cues from Stageburg’s design by extending the lines of egress and entry, and adhering to the delightful color palette. Both front and back will become a network of paths with points for reflection, gathering, and rest.
